Just read an article that 3,000 people have been hit by a con and should check the ABTA’s advice site or affiliated organisation ATOL. – they name at least 3 companies defrauding people – scary. Have you been caught out by a holiday scam?

yes last year i booked a holiday with mydeckchair.com and they ripped me off. luck have it i had to ring them for something a couple of weeks before i was due to go, when i didnt get any replies from emails and the phone rang and rang i did some investigating. i rang the airline and they said i was booked on flight but it hadnt been paid for in full, then i rang the hotel and they didnt have any knowledge of my booking so i got on to trading standard and went from them to atol and abta. eventually after having to find my own accomidation and kind freedom flights flights i managed to go and when i got back i had to contact my credit card company and tell them. after a long proccess i got if returned back.
Nope but I seen it on GMTV this morning
if they were insured then it’s no problem
No, cant even afford a holiday, sob!
i know where you are comming from babe, and i read the article,, its a disgrace that this allowed to happen and when caught they should face a very heavy sentence,,
it must be terrible to work all year to treat your wife and kids to a holiday and some bum steals your cash before you get there,
the lesson to be learned is always pay by credit card as that normally protects you in these cases,, if you do not have a credit card make sure they are a.t.o.l or a.b.t.a reg as these bodies would protect you and give you a full refund if this kind of thing went on..
hope the guilty parties choke on there stolen cash
lol
I work for an on line travel agency and I think it’s terrible. I always assure my customers we are protected by ATOL and TTA which will cover you if companies go bust. However, if you are going to spend alot of money on a holiday and a good holiday that may be your only one for months/years it is only right that the you as the customer should always check these things for yourself before going ahead with the booking, for example, checking their websites and check their company name on-line to make sure they are reputable.
It is a shame these so called ‘company’s’ have ripped all these people off and it just gives us decent agents a hard time.
I agree with arly barly.
Working for a online travel agency too, the travel industry is going through a tough time as it is, without these con merchants pretending to be travel agents.
Do your research before parting with any money is my advice, check with ABTA that the agents ABTA number exists, same for ATOL or TTA (Travel Trust Association).
